One thing that has been on my mind lately is how some companies are considered Shariah-compliant by Zoya, yet their products are ultimately used in military or defense applications.
For example, Nvidia. In May 2026, the U.S. Department of Defense signed a new agreement with Nvidia, Microsoft, AWS, and a startup to bring advanced AI into classified military networks. Nvidia’s role was to provide the GPUs and specialized processors needed to train and run large AI models at scale. According to reports, the Pentagon said that these technologies would help improve warfighter decision-making and noted that Nvidia was relatively new to this type of classified defense work.
How are situations like this viewed from an Islamic perspective, especially when a company’s core business may be permissible, but its products are also being used in warfare?
